The Dennis Rosen Memorial Trust Newsletter: March-April 2006
Welcome to the Dennis Rosen Memorial Trust Newsletter, which features news of the work of the Trust, and news on science-art interactions in the UK and internationally, including events, publications, grant schemes and other initiatives that are within the remit of the Trust.

Competition: Global: L'ORÉAL Art and Science of Color Prize, closes 31 March 2006
The L'ORÉAL Art and Science of Color Prize prize is presented for a particular piece of work that has successfully achieved a fresh and original meeting between science and art in colour. It can be a single work of art, a research paper, or a series of artworks or research papers that have been produced under the same subject or project. There are three prizes, all presented to one person or a group of three persons or less: the Gold Prize (30,000 Euro), the Silver Prize (20,000 Euro) and the Bronze Prize (10,000 Euro). All winners will be invited to the award ceremony to be held in the autumn of 2006 in Japan. Applications are accepted until Friday 31, March 2006

Events: London, UK: Dan Flavin A Retrospective: afterimage, until 2 Apr 2006
The exhibition of the works of American artist Dan Flavin includes afterimage, an experimental resource space within the gallery exploring colour perception, fluorescence and the creation of light, devised by three leading UK scientists. Two free Saturday Science Séances events, on 25 Mar 2006 at 13:00 and 1 Apr 2006 at 13:00 will enable visitors to discuss the work in afterimage with the scientists concerned, Mark Lythgoe, Beau Lotto and Mark Miodownik.

Funding: Wellcome Trust Sciart, deadline 28 April 2006
The Wellcome Trust Sciart programme is offering up to £500 000 in 2006 to further support and encourage innovative arts projects investigating biomedical science and its social contexts. R&D Awards (up to £15 000) aim to support the development of collaborative project ideas or the delivery of small-scale productions. Production Awards (up to £120 000) will be made to projects that aim to make a significant impact on the public's engagement with biomedical science. Applicants must be based in the UK or the Republic of Ireland and the activity must take place in the UK or Republic of Ireland. The next deadline for applications is 28 April 2006.
